Haemophilus Test Medium (HTM) is used in the dilution antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) of Haemophilus influenzae and other fastidious respiratory pathogens. This formulation is supplemented with the X factor (hematin) but not the V (NAD) growth factors. For differentiation of XV, NAD must be added to this medium. Fluid Thioglycollate Medium (FTM) contains a small amount of agar and several reducing agents which detects the presence of anaerobic bacteria in sterility testing. This medium is recommended by the FDA and in the USP for use in sterility confirmation. Strict aerobes tend to grow at the surface whereas obligate anaerobes grow below the upper oxidized layer portion of the broth.
